Who to Trust Then?

When most Brands' Names appeal to our sense of Trust to make that first purchase...
or sense of travel, adventure, dream... just a few letters to make you indulge in your fantasies...
or luxury... being made to feel above others by special buying powers...

What about what goes into the brand, the ingredients, the workforce treatment, the creativity,
and above all the legacy to our planet and future generations?

Does this also come into a few letters of short lived fantasy?

Then "SueMe" might not "fit"into the reassuring fantasy: it will make you feel on edge...
Thinking: why do I need to be provoked into Action?

Actually, we feel Creativity needs to be triggered into action every day:

Denim Blues...

So from walking in the High Street, which in Central London would be Oxford Street,
one can spot hues of blues and themes around Denim, at H&M,
G-star...
And M&S spread on front and cover pages of the Metro Yesterday...
SO Denim is not Dead
but at this rate- if we do not act fast-

our planet might soon be...
DENIM is DIRTY

Children FIRST Denim SECOND

When looking at children's drawings one can see their sense of hope and optimism intact,
as a natural expression of the innate positive human spirit...

Caroline Lee from the Head Clinical Education Centre expressed how the human brain is wired to process positive thinking and is unable to process negative thinking, resulting in a shutting down of internal system, when negative thinking occurs...

It seems children do this (be positive thinkers) naturally sketching trees with buildings growing as leaves in representation of their natural habitat in an urban environment such as Broadwater Farm...

Yet a few years later, they start judging their drawings and say: "I can't draw"...

So we would like to draw inspiration from optimistic children to redress the world,
and today having met an amazing team at TRAID, a charity aiming to give clothes a longer life,
wondered if -
the denim industry could be the starting point of changing the industry for good...
Here is a rack of Jeans from TRAID - Turnpike Lane -  N22
Beautifully arranged in shades from washed to dark...

Denim production utilizes huge amounts of cotton, water, pesticides and chemicals, depleting our planet of major necessary ingredients required by humans on a daily basis to survive...

There is no other planet with such richness of life so far, that we know of,
so let's protect this gem instead of destroying it,

let's start emulate the positive human spirit of children
for them to continue growing with all their positive aspirations... in happier societies... globally...
THANK YOU TRAID

Made only...

When needed, required, for enjoyment, long life, multiple purposes...

These are the core SUEME VALUES for investing time and resources
into bringing new items on the already busy clothing market...

No need for more really, unless we have carefully reviewed the concept and worn the sample enough years for people to express their wish to wear one similar piece...

--  creating new styles which can FULLY fulfil a new purpose --

Size by size, graded today manually at the SueMe Studio in North London where,

after creating and finishing the making of the Gilet yesterday,

two friends of XL and XXL stature ordered it on the spot,
they were measured (on the spot too)
and soon will enjoy one of these gilets over the matching Echoic jacket

The first original version was created in 2014...  and worn since then,
tested all these years, as the difference in Millerain shades show here
the shoulder parts are made with same cloth, but one faded over the years,
giving it a nice worn "patine" look

... it took all these years to really decide there was a need for it...
so instead or ordering new wool, we decided to utilise off-cuts of Echoic Jacket production
to create a matching set, when worn over recycled plastic fleece layers
which breathe well and are sealed with ultrasonic seams to avoid extra layers
(as displayed here below): the black layer has just arrived from Scotland,
where it took 3 years to cut make and finish:
it is made out of NEWLIFE fibres recycled plastic from Italy
worth waiting for too... and not on the website yet...

This GILET is a classy yet modern versatile garment which can dress up or down
and serves well as a final layer with pockets
for those on the go who like to wear comfortable sporty garments of lasting quality
to suit their fast paced lifestyle...yet wishing to slow fashion down...

It is amazingly satisfying for a designer pattern cutter with a green conscience
to be part of a visionary entrepreneurs team and see a concept grow slowly over the years
and see how each new gilet brings so much fun and enjoyment...
THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT REAL...

Today was the amazing visit of Sustainable company SueMe in Potters Bar preparing sustainable workshops involving using fabrics from various sources and qualities to unleash the creative process: saving cloth from the landfill, learning how to design, sew and pattern cut from existing garments or from scratch... The classes are for all levels and can be arranged in suitable locations.

BUTTONS...to save PLASTIC...

When redesigning from existing sources:  Pashmina turn Kamise

or - and especially- when revamping existing garments from charity shops or own wardrobes ...
The "closure" element of the design- as we know from any kind of process-
can be a great source of innovation...

The Design Challenge can be any aspect which requires specific solutions and creativity:
an area which will have particular significance in expressing a designer's message
Each button has a size which is measured in "Line": 18L=1cm width, 32L=1.5cm
Local company Jessica Buttons, Woodgreen, generous donations of end of line buttons above
AS part of  R&D collaboration with SueMe to create hybrid sustainable sports jackets, the Echoic Jackets were made in small quantities at the Boutique Factory, Tottenham:
post production offcuts of beautiful Polartec recycled PLASTIC fleece rescued from landfill
are a great source of experimentation.
We urge all designers, brands and companies using such beautiful RECYCLED PLASTIC cloth to make sure the offcuts do not end up in the bin... plastic bottles turn fleece is an amazing process, we wish to make sure we find a safe creative innovative end of journey for these tons of offcuts...
Another way to solve the Design Challenge is to help save resources and create unique beautiful buttons oneself using a soft basis (cut out of Recycled plastic fleece from factory offcuts, cover with remnant cloth and embroider with repurposed beads...

Embark on a new Fashion Journey!!!

Voila... Another great way to make friends at a Sustainable Community Workshop,
where amazing essential skills such as cutting small shapes, hand-sewing ...
coupled with developing a sense of innovation, resourcefulness, and support of the environment...
values which can then easily be passed on to more...

How to Design a Sustainable Collection...

1- Collect fabrics due to landfill from closing down companies
2- Gather a community inter-generational sewing group (with the help of Haringey Council)
to exchange tips and create new designs from scrap fabrics
3- Gather up to plan some more in the Creative Studio
4- Discover the designer within: Add a few deconstructed pieces
5- Organise a Fashion Show to share with your friends at the Youth Center-
6- Repeat the Catwalk at your local Park Event and
Get a nice shot with your local MP in the paper!
7- Share with your online friends
to inspire them to take action for a better planet!
